Cart Abandonment Done the RIGHT way.
Only the top 1% of brand owners know this trick.
What if we told you that you’ve been doing cart abandonment all wrong?
What if we told you that reading this issue of ShopBytes will fix that for you and make your store more money on autopilot?
Well, you’re in luck!
Only the top 1% of brand owners know this trick.
We’re going to spill the beans on how exactly one store generated an additional $8,500+ by sending 2 automated emails.
Checkout Vs. Cart
When customers come to your store, you already know that you’re taking them on a journey down your success roadmap to the happy ending of buying your product (and coming back for more).
However, every seasoned store owner knows, that a huge number of customers will never complete their purchase after adding a product to the cart even if you’ve used our best checkout page hack.
Well, let’s solve that!
Why Hosting Matters
To understand the important difference between Checkout Abandonment and Cart Abandonment, we first need to understand one quick thing about hosting…
One reason we love Shopify is that they own the servers that your site is on.
If you’re a Shopify customer, you get your own cozy little corner of the internet without having to worry about your site staying live.
Unlike platforms like WooCommerce, where you're basically renting a server and playing the role of a hyper-vigilant caretaker to ensure your site stays live and kicking, Shopify takes care of all that server jazz for you.
It's like having a personal butler for your website – classy, right?
Now, I know what you're thinking – what does Shopify owning the server have to do with making more dough and why should I care about cart versus checkout?
Well, strap in, because we're about to unravel this mystery without diving into the technical deep end.
Who Owns What?
Because of how the hosting works, YOU own the cart, but Shopify owns the Checkout.
Your Cart is like your precious treasure chest, filled with shiny goodies just waiting to be claimed by eager customers. But then, there's Shopify's checkout – the velvet rope entrance to the VIP club where all the magic happens.
Here's the kicker – your Cart and Shopify's checkout are like two peas in a pod, yet they dance to different tunes when it comes to triggering those oh-so-important abandonment recovery emails.
Most folks in the Shopify sphere talk a big game about Cart Abandonment, but they're actually referring to the sneaky checkout abandoners, leaving the poor old carts in the dust.
Traditional understanding of Cart Abandonment Recovery refers to recovering customers that make it to the checkout page…
However, this completely misses the customers that added product to their carts but did not proceed to the checkout.
Just to be crystal clear, customers that add product to cart on your store do not get cart abandonment emails sent to them - only people that reach checkout do.
We’ll show you how to fix that by adding a second email flow.
If you’re not currently doing anything for cart abandonment, be sure to check out our cart abandonment recovery guide first.
Turning it into $$$
We're about to unlock the secret vault to boosting your sales faster than you can say "cha-ching!"
Imagine adding approximately 1% to your sales every month, or a whopping 12% per year, just by making a few tweaks in your email game.
Here’s how…
Create a new flow in Klaviyo for those elusive cart abandoners and rename your existing Cart Abandonment flow to Checkout Abandonment.
So now you will have:
A Cart Abandonment Flow (for people who add to cart and don’t make it to checkout)
A Checkout Abandonment Flow (for people who reach checkout and do not complete purchase)
You will get FREE dollars by doing this one thing.
PLUS you get more customers making purchases! This increase your LTV (Customer Lifetime Value) also, especially if you use our money printing automation.
Case In Point
Need proof? Let's crunch some numbers.
Take this brand, for instance, churning out around $80k a month.
In just 30 days, their dedicated Cart Abandonment email flow raked in an extra $711.30 in sales compared to the Checkout Abandonment flow.
That's a whopping $8,535.60 in bonus booty annually, all thanks to a couple of automated emails.
Here is the flow setup in Klaviyo:
And the results…
Email 1:
Email 2:
These are simple Cart/Checkout Abandonment emails urging people to come back and complete their purchase.
You can send a third email 20 hours after email 2 if you like.
Always test to see what does the best for REVENUE.
You’ve worked really hard on finding and getting quality traffic to your store…
So you should set up 2 more emails to make sure you’re optimizing to make every dollar possible.
Set it, forget it, and watch the sales roll in!
